Sam Smith

Hello!

My name is Sam Smith and I’m a professional writer out of Birmingham, Alabama. I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in August of 2023 with a degree in English with a Concentration in Professional Writing. As of September 2024, I am also working on a Master’s in Computer Science from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

My degree in English with a Concentration in Professional Writing gave me the tools to turn my talent and passion for writing into a marketable skill. During my education, I worked as an editorial intern for GirlSpring.com which gave me a great insight to the power of web content. GirlSpring is a non-profit organization in Birmingham, AL dedicated to the empowerment of young women and girls.

Being in charge of editorial for the website gave me hands-on experience in contributing to a successful online presence for an organization. Careful diligence for SEO, visual media, and quality content goes a long way.

I currently work freelance in AI training (non-coding), and I’m also in grad school for computer science at the Stevens Institute of Technology (online). My work as an AI trainer is varied. I often find myself creating long documents about a niche subject to strain AI models’ abilities to find information and reason, or I find myself fact-checking AI generated responses line-by-line to ensure honesty and quality.

So far in my graduate program, I have learned Java, the fundamentals of computer science, and data structures and algorithms. My hope is to someday combine my passion for writing and communications with programming in the field of either artificial intelligence or web development.
